Important travel information regarding U.S. Passports
Passports are now required for all travel outside of the United States, including Canada, Mexico and the Caribbean. Some countries require that your passport be valid at least six (6) months beyond the date of your trip. Most airlines will not allow you to board if this requirement is not met.
The issue date of your passport can be found on the data page of your passport book or the front of your passport card.
If possible, you should renew your passport approximately nine (9) months before it expires. If your passport is still valid or has expired within the last five years and was issued after you turned 16, you can renew it by mail. All you need to do is fill out Form DS-82 and send it, your current passport, two passport photos and the applicable fee. Please note that it can take up to six (6) weeks to receive your passport via U.S. mail.
Airlines require that international travelers check in earlier than other travelers. Before arriving at the airport confirm the requirements of your air carrier.
Airlines are now charging fees for all checked bags. Baggage fees and permissible sizes and weights of bags vary by airline so be sure to check with your carrier for accurate information. This applies to domestic and some international travel. Some exemptions apply to uniformed military and people with disabilities who have to check an assistance device (e.g. a wheelchair). Please contact your airline or check its website for its specific policies and requirements.
