Roanoke Regional Airport’s history officially began in 1929, when the City of Roanoke leased 136 acres of land from Cannaday Farm for an airport site. This is where Roanoke Municipal Airport was established and, with a new name, still remains. During the past ten years, the Commission has undertaken the construction of about $56.7 million in airfield improvements, resulting in a virtually brand new airfield for this more than seventy-five year old facility.
